Congratulations to Sherita Fuller, principal of Helena Elementary School, for being named the 2024 Person County Schools Principal of the Year; in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wells Fargo. Superintendent Dr. Rodney Peterson, along with faculty and staff from Helena Elementary and her family, surprised Fuller with the announcement during a faculty meeting Monday afternoon. Fuller has been the principal of Helena Elementary School since 2022. Mrs. Fuller began her teaching career in Person County in 1995 as an elementary teacher at North Elementary where she taught and was a curriculum specialist until 2010. She then served as a curriculum specialist at Oak Lane Elementary School for the 2010-2011 school year. Mrs. Fuller moved to an Assistant Principal position with Durham Public Schools for the 2011-2012 school year before she returned to Person County Schools as Assistant Principal at Southern Middle School for the 2012-2013 school year. Fuller was then named Principal at North End Elementary where she served from 2013-2022. In July of 2022, Mrs. Fuller transitioned to the largest elementary school in the district, Helena, where she has been leading the charge since. Fuller holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Clinch Valley College/UVA and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University in 2003.
Fuller’s connection to PCS, as stated above, is long-standing and admirable. She will now compete with other principals across the state for North Carolina Principal of the Year. When asked about how she feels to receive this honor, Principal Fuller stated, “I am truly grateful for this wonderful recognition! Not only do I feel honored, I am greatly humbled as well. I have never been someone who liked to be the center of attention. I do what I do simply because I love teaching and learning. It’s just who I am! To me, there is no better reward than working with children, parents, teachers, and the community for the greater good."
Superintendent Peterson shared, “I offer my sincere congratulations to Sherita Fuller for being selected Person County Schools’ Principal of the Year. Mrs. Fuller is an exceptional instructional leader who possesses a gift in creating a common shared understanding for the purpose of the work that has to be done within a school. Through her dedication, commitment, and expectations of excellence, in ensuring the growth of all students, Mrs. Fuller is an example of how impactful the school principal can be. All in the Helena Elementary School community are lucky to have Mrs. Fuller as a leader and an advocate for education and students.”
